We started our morning with a BIG trip to Costco and left having a much better understanding of what shopping for the Duggars must be like.
In all seriousness, as we filled our baskets we were reminded of our own blessings and how grateful we were to be able to use those resources to fulfill so many needs for this organization and its families.
House of Refuge is a nonprofit organization in the east valley of Arizona. They have a pretty incredible story that spans over 20 years of helping those in our very own community.
In 1995, House of Refuge acquired 88 homes and a Chapel to provide transitional housing and a support program to eligible families. They accepted their first resident into the program in 1996 – and have been changing lives ever since.
House of Refuge provides safe, stable housing to families who are experiencing homelessness. Located in Southeast Mesa, our professional staff work with families on regaining dignity, finding employment, and ultimately obtaining permanent housing.
Through out the years House of Refuge has expanded, including their acquisition of Williams Air Force base housing, and the number of families they’ve been able to help has grown as a result.
With the help of major sponsorships, they have been able to build a tot lot, large playground, donation center, full basketball court, laundromat, resource center, and most recently an employment and education center. In addition, they have replaced roofs, insulated attics, added energy efficient appliances, tinted windows, and added solar panels to 20 homes!
This is what happens when the community comes together, and we are so honored and proud to be in the group of businesses that have helped and will continue to help an organization like this.
During our time there, not only did we learn all of this and much more, but we also had the immense pleasure of meeting and spending some time with Hanna and the staff at House of Refuge. It was very clear how much these staff members and volunteers care for and believe in their mission.
This is such an incredible organization here in the east valley! They are doing SO much for our community’s families that have fallen on hard times be it a severe financial struggle, escaping domestic violence, death or tragedy, or just trying to recover from life throwing too many curve balls at once.
Our community is lucky to have an organization like this doing so much to help.
As seen in the pictures all the amazing donations that have been brought in, but they go so quickly, and they are run solely on donations from the community, so please consider helping if/when you can.
If you decide that this organization is one you’d like to be a part of in some way, there are multiple opportunities to help. Monetary or supply/food donations are always welcome, there is a tax credit program available, and you can of course volunteer your time to help in several different ways. There is also the opportunity to adopt a home and to be a corporate partner. If you have any further questions for House of Refuge you can reach them via email at email@example.com.
The New Roof AZ team left there changed for the better. We are more aware of the struggles so many families are facing, proud of the many local businesses and organizations that have donated their services, materials, and/or supplies, and better as a team seeing what can happen when neighbors help neighbors. Our community is strengthened, and we are better because of it.
