“You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town!”

Christmas is almost here and the hustle and bustle is sinking in. Are you making a list for Santa? Of course we are talking about the checklist to make sure Santa makes a safe landing on your roof! Craven Construction has come up with a checklist for you to make sure you don’t end up like Tim Allen in The Santa Clause and have the big guy slip off your roof this season.

Safe Roof Landing Checklist

  1. Tim Your Trees – We’re not talking about the tree inside your home, but the ones that may be blocking way for Santa to land on your roof. Tree branches hanging over a roof have the ability to cause excessive damage from falling branches. Trimming your trees can prevent older branches from falling on and damaging your roof. Doing so will also help prevent damage caused by severe wind and rain.
  2. Replace or Repair Tiles & Shingles – We wouldn’t want the guy in the red suit to wake your family by stumbling on a loose tile! Now is a great time to inspect the tiles or shingles on your roof and replace or repair any that need it. By doing so, you won’t just be protecting Santa, but also making sure further damage is not done while you are sipping eggnog at the neighborhood party.
  3. Check For Soft Spots – Harry and Marv won’t be trying to break into your home on Christmas Eve, so no need to leave any booby traps! Checking your roof for soft spots will protect Santa too when he makes his stop at your house. We’ve had heavy rain the last few months, which means the probability for the underlayer of your roof to get wet is greater. It is best to inspect for soft spots from the ground or with a hired professional for proper safety.
  4. Decorate! – Santa needs a little help navigating his landing and the best way to do so is with some lights! We hear lining your roof with colorful lights will make sure he can not only find your house, but make a safe landing too. Always do so safely with a proper sized ladder, plenty of light clips, and outdoor approved extension cords.

Once you are done with your list, be sure to check it twice to make sure Santa has a safe landing on Christmas Eve! If you are in need of a roof inspection, contact our office today at 602-399-4914. We will provide you with a free estimate of any necessary work that needs completed.
