In Arizona, 979,170 people are struggling with hunger – and of them 348,550 are children.
When we sat down as a team in October to decide on a community event for the holiday season, we very quickly agreed upon a food drive. We knew Arizona had a need, but even more specifically our community in Apache Junction, the city many of our team calls home. We also knew we wanted to involve our community as much as possible. So, we called up our great friends, Megan and Chelsea from Team Connolly at Academy Mortgage along with 2Cs Cooling and Heating #TheACGuys and they were immediately on board!
We reached out to other community business owners and asked if they’d be willing to partner with us by allowing a donation box to be placed at their businesses. We were thrilled with the response from so many local businesses and even more so when we picked up their boxes filled to the brim with nonperishable foods.
One stop on our food drive was at Desert Vista Elementary school. Their student council held a food drive throughout the school to help with our efforts and they played a huge role in our final donation. Mr. Brown’s 3rd grade class came in with the largest donation in the school and we gladly thanked them with a pizza party in December!
On November 25th, we collected over 14,00 lbs of food and as a team, Craven Construction, Team Connolly, and 2C’s Cooling and Heating donated 18 turkeys all to the Apache Junction Food Bank. Our donation was received with many thanks from the very hard-working team at the food bank, but it was our team that was so affected by this food drive.
We are grateful to be living and working in a community so full of generous people willing to help those in need during a time of year that can be financially taxing and stressful already. We hope they all know how much they helped and how meaningful their donation was, no matter how big or small.
